About Our Firm

Here’s our story. We look forward to hearing yours.

Total Advisor/Retirement+

At Total Advisor/Retirement+, we make it our  mission to leave no stone unturned to find the best financial solution for each client’s goals and dreams. What’s more, we always listen before we provide guidance, are approachable and genuine, and are plainspoken about financial matters. Plus, if we do say so ourselves, we’re just plain fun to work with!

Certified Public Accountant

When I was 5 years old, I received my first allowance from my parents: 75 cents a week. Although I appreciated three shiny new quarters, my older siblings all received a dollar or more a week. I didn’t mind the disparity in pay, but my quarters did not look very impressive next to a $1 bill. I complained to my parents, and they made a deal with me: If I still had all three quarters at the end of the week (and didn’t blow the money on candy), they would trade me a dollar bill for my three quarters.

With a weekly return of 33 percent secured, my love of finance and investing was born. Although I have not been able to duplicate that 33 percent return since I was young, I still love finding the best investment strategy possible for myself and my clients in their pursuit of their financial objectives.

I earned a bachelor’s degree in information systems from Eastern Washington University in 2001 and my Master of Accountancy from Gonzaga University a few year later. Shortly after that, I obtained my Certified Public Accountant license and became a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional (CFP®). I also have passed the Series 7 and 66 securities exams and have life and health insurance licenses in Idaho, Texas, Utah and Washington.

I have been involved in several organizations around my hometown of Spokane as a board member and consultant. I also have served as treasurer of the Spokane Club and spent five years as a reserve police officer for the Spokane Police Department.

When not at work, I’m spending time with my wife and three kids. We watch a lot of Disney movies in my house, which I typically pretend to watch while I’m reading.

“Retirement+” Radio Host

I have spent the last 15 years in the insurance and annuity industry, where I find great joy in educating my clients on ways to protect and grow their retirement assets, create income that can’t be outlived and build a financial legacy for future generations.

In the first several years of my career, I worked with other retirement professionals around the country, teaching them the value in helping their clients optimize their Social Security benefits and income for retirement.

After my precious children were born, I decided it was time to remain closer to home in the Northwest. Now, as part of Total Advisor Network, I am doing what I professionally love the most: building relationships and helping to provide our clients with financial security.

I host weekly “Retirement+” radio shows in all corners of Washington. I also have life and health insurance licenses in Alaska, Arizona, Idaho and Washington.

At the end of the day, I find my greatest purpose in being a husband and a father. Hillary and I have three sons and a daughter, and our days are filled with endless activities.

In addition, I love college football, coaching my kids’ teams, and spending time with them at our lake cabin in the summer.

Simply put, they are the reason I do what I do.

Financial Advisor

I joined Total Advisor/Retirement+ in 2016 after moving from a large broker in Spokane. What I found at Total Advisor is an environment that supported my beliefs and morals, both personal and business related.

I began working in the financial industry in the late ’90s at a local bank based in Tacoma. While I attended Eastern Washington University, I continued to work during the summers and on breaks in different departments of the bank, providing me with a unique perspective and opportunity to watch successful executives foster and promote successful client relationships.

I took a break from college after a few years and joined the United States Coast Guard and spent four years stationed at Motor Life Boat Station Tillamook Bay in Oregon. Upon completion of my four-year tour, I spent seven years as a deputy sheriff in Spokane and Tillamook counties before returning to school to obtain my bachelor’s degree in biology. My favorite part of police work was the positive interaction with the public and being able to truly help someone in need or brighten their day.

Total Advisor/Retirement+ is the perfect fit to allow me the opportunity to continue to serve my clients and provide an honest and straightforward review and recommendation for their needs. I am passionate about educating our large client base of federal employees and managing our operations west of the Cascades out of the Tacoma Office. I have life and health insurance licenses in California, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington and many other states.

I have been married to my wife, Saira, for 15 years and continue to enjoy every minute I spend with her and our beautiful family. We have four wonderful children who keep us very busy. We enjoy spending time on the boat, fishing, camping and traveling to visit our large extended family throughout the country.

Our children are the light of our lives and are very active in soccer, cross country, swimming and other seasonal sports and school activities. I enjoy volunteering at St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Meals on Wheels when I have “spare time.” When I have a moment, I enjoy reading books to my children, as well as Bill O’Reilly’s series about the lives of prominent individuals and the news.

Insurance Consultant

From building houses to clearing logging roads, from working heavy equipment to managing large companies, I learned at every stage the value of hard work, discipline and striving for excellence in my jobs.

These experiences opened doors for me to step into the insurance industry. After beginning in the realm of health insurance, I transitioned into the federal market, where I was able to work with clients and their Social Security benefits, helping them to maximize their retirement benefits. After seeing the vast need for individuals to understand how complex the Social Security benefits were, I made it a career goal to help as many people as I could.

Being a part of the Total Advisor/Retirement+ group allows me to work with family and people who place integrity at the pinnacle of everything they do. I have life and health insurance licenses in Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Idaho.

My greatest joy in this life is being married to Danette for almost 42 years. I enjoy working in my yard, reading sniper books and spending quality time with my children and grandchildren.

Financial Advisor

I’ve spent several years working with the Washington and Idaho State Health Benefits Exchange and have the ability to offer all qualified individual health plans in Washington and many in Idaho. I also specialize in guiding clients through available Medicare options, including Medicare Supplements, Medicare Advantage Plans and Medicare Part D/Rx options. I’ve passed the Series 6 and 65 securities exams and have worked for several other financial services firms and in the insurance industry. Prior to joining the Total Advisor Network, I attended the College of Business and Economics at Washington State University.

I spent most of my early life as an internationally competitive figure skater and traveled to countries including South Korea, China, Germany, France, Hungary, Croatia and the former Czechoslovakia. In my time away from the office, I enjoy playing golf, cheering on local sports teams and spending time with my wife and three young children.

Chief Compliance Officer

Growing up in a small farm town in Eastern Washington, I learned a lot about hard work and dedication.  I bring those small-town, honest values to my job as chief compliance officer at Total Advisor/Retirement+.

After high school, I attended Eastern Washington University, where I earned my bachelor’s degree in biology secondary education. I returned to school a few years later and earned my master’s degree in technology in education from Lesley University.

After teaching in public education for 20 years, I have been blessed to have the opportunity to begin a new career at Total Advisor Network. I am passionate about being a lifelong learner and believe strongly that no matter where life takes you, you can always walk away learning something new.

I enjoy helping Investment Adviser Representatives from all over the country grow their business. By helping to create a culture of compliance within our network of representatives, I feel we are ultimately better able to serve our customers and provide for them the highest level of service, placing our clients’ best interests above everything else. I am so excited for what the future holds for Total Advisor/Retirement+ and am truly honored to be a part of such a special group of people.

I am married to Sammie McComas, who just happens to be the director of marketing for Total Advisor/Retirement+. We are proud parents of five beautiful children.

In my free time, I enjoy reading spy novels, especially those by Tom Clancy, and keeping up on current events on Twitter.

Director of Marketing

I graduated from Whitworth University and received my bachelor’s degree in secondary education. A few years later, I earned my master’s degree in technology in education. Being in education for over 12 years taught me the value of adapting to change. I learned a great deal about multitasking and making sure each student and family felt valued and heard.

It is these values that I bring to Total Advisor/Retirement+ as the director of marketing. Making sure our clients have a window into our firm and seeing our growth and our tenacity to assist them in building a solid financial future gives me great pride. It’s an honor to be part of a company where professionalism and integrity go hand in hand.

My greatest joy is being a mother to my children. My husband, Darrin, and our five children keep me quite busy and teach me something new every day.

At home, I enjoy reading all genres, finding new recipes to cook, and camping and boating in the summertime.

Director of Operations

Born and raised in Spokane, Washington, I graduated from Eastern Washington University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and majored in accounting.

I started working with Steve Larsen in 2007 as an accountant focused on small businesses. Today, my unofficial title is “chief problem solver,” and I’m passionate about payroll processing and bank account reconciling.

I enjoy spending time with my family, especially summers at our property on the river in Post Falls. I am a lover of the arts and frequently attend performances of the Spokane Symphony, Spokane Civic Theater and Coeur d’Alene Opera.

I’m also known for watching a lot of television and movies. My friends, family and coworkers frequently ask me for my latest recommendations. I enjoy reading as well; however, lately I spend more time listening to podcasts. Some of my favorites include The Nerdist, Gilmore Guys and The Adam Carolla Show.
